VELUPPILLAI Uthaya

Uthaya Veluppillai (b. 1979) has a PhD (2013) in Indian Studies from the University Sorbonne Nouvelle-Paris III. She is responsible of Tamil Studies at Institut national des langues et civilisations orientales (INaLCO), Paris, where she is teaching Tamil langage (spoken, written and classical forms), literature and South Indian civilization.

Uthaya Veluppillai is a historian of South India. She is a specialist of (1) the Tamil Shaiva religious history of the medieval period using inscriptions, literature and ethnohistorical datas. She is also working on (2) didactic manual on contemporary Tamil langage and (3) on diasporic Tamil literature.

Uthaya Veluppillai is member of the Task Force A on Tamil speaking South India and works on medieval Tamil inscriptions from Shaiva temples celebrated in Shaiva canonical literature.
