Yohan Chabot has a BA in Geography (2011) from the Université Bordeaux Montaigne (France), a MA in Physical Geography (2013) from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and a PhD in Physical Geography (2017) from the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
He is a geomorphologist and specialist in the phytoliths study in South East Asia. His researches focus on (1) the geoarchaeological study of the sedimentary contexts of ancient occupations ; (2) the reconstruction of paleoenvironments and landscapes history and (3) the analysis of human/nature interactions in the vegetation landscape evolution through the study of phytoliths.
Between 2013 and 2017, he has worked as a PhD student at the Laboratoire de Géographie Physique (UMR 8591, Paris), in the French-Indonesian Archaeological Project « Le site d’habitat ancien de Kota Cina (Sumatra Nord, Indonésie) ». Since 2018, he is involved in the French-Malaysian Archaeological Project « Sarawak River Delta Project (Borneo, Malaysia) » in which he is conducting an environnemental study on the excavation of the site Sungai Jaong (Kuching area). He is also took part to the project « Trajectoire et controverses des paysages d’ABattis-Brûlis en Asie et en Afrique » in Laos (Namo district, Oudomxay Province) where he is conducting a phytolithic study.
Yohan is part of Task-Force C of the ERC DHARMA project. He is postdoctoral fellow at the Ecole Française d’Extrême-Orient (EFEO, Paris) and at the Laboratoire de Géographie Physique (LGP, Paris). He supervises the paleoenvironmental study of the excavations at Bumiayu, a Hindu religous site in south Sumatra (9th-12th c.) and in its surroundings.
