After obtaining a PhD in archaeology at Paris IV Sorbonne on the Buddhist āśrama of Prasat Ong Mong, Socheat Chea is now co-director of the excavation campaigns of the Yaśodharāśrama research programme. He supervises the post-excavation work, manages all cartographic and topographic data and participates in the publications and reports.

He also carries out mapping work as part of the Corpus des inscriptions khmères (CIK) programme and collects topographic data from all over Southeast Asia.

At the same time, he is in charge of preventive archaeological excavations at Angkor in the area that APSARA is responsible for.

Socheat Chea is part of the Task-Force C.
