DHARMA present at the First World Odia Language Conference
The DHARMA team members Arlo Griffiths, Annette Schmiedchen, Amandine Wattelier-Bricout, and Hedwi Prihatmoko travelled to India on invitation by the Government of Odisha to participate in the First World Odia Language Conference, which took place in Bhubaneswar from 3rd to 5th February, 2024.
Arlo Griffiths was honoured as special guest for his contributions to Vedic philology, the Atharvaveda Paippalāda tradition of Odisha, and Southeast Asian history.
Arlo Griffiths and Annette Schmiedchen had sessions in the Plenary Hall of Janta Maidan with a capacity of 1.400 seats.
Arlo Griffiths gave a presentation on “Digital Opportunities for the Study of Odisha’s Literary and Linguistic Heritage (with special focus on digitisation of manuscripts and digital philology)”.
Annette Schmiedchen delivered a talk on “Female Rulers in Medieval Odisha – the Case of the Bhauma-Kara Queens”.
